So much for getting this going again…
Since my last post, things have been a whirlwind.
Rusty found a wonderful new home as a low level event horse.
Higgins has been enjoying growing up a bit.
Happy is now a seasoned Novice event horse.
Things definitely played out differently than I had expected, and I don’t mean just with horses. Nothing looks the same as it did last year and I’ve just been trying to not get left behind with all of the changes.
I had hopes of competing Higgins this year, but so many things got in my way pushing it further and further back. He had a really bad tripping issue when he first came over. It was like his legs didn’t lift off the ground properly. After one ride where he tripped, went down, and rolled over me…we spent a couple of months just getting chiropractic adjustments along with long walks on hills just getting his body moving properly.
Happy is by far the most complicated horse I’ve ever trained. He seems to change weekly, and what may work great for a week…changes so quickly and I’m stuck coming up with new methods of training, constantly trying to figure out what new direction to go. It’s been frustrating and educational with some real fantastic progress made…but still have so far to go.
Throw in some of the most important people in my life moving half way across the country, and then I took up a new career title, and lots of traveling…this year was really just me doing the best I could.
Though I must say this year has given me time to reflect and really assess who I am and what I want in life. I’ve got to spend some amazing quality time with Happy and Higgins with no real pressure of competing for placings.
2017 is going to be a fantastic year. This year was just getting the wheels back rolling again on solid ground.
I know no one probably reads this anymore…but it’s nice to have something to look back on to see how far you’ve come.
Carrie, Hap, and Higgs.
